Hey Baby !

Heyy Babyy is a remake of a English movie “Three men and a baby” , like it’s lead actor Akshay Kumar has a huge likeability factor associated with it. There’s tons of goofiness in the film which ensures a lot of laughs and saves the movie despite those melodramatic scenes where the three guys act like the little girl’s daddy….The audience seemed to have responded very well to the movie overall. The story is very simple, 3 men that like to party live in their bachelor pad in Sydney. One fine morning a little baby shows up at their doorstep with a letter that tells that it’s one of the guys’ daughter (the letter says - Kutte Kamine apni beti ko sambhal). Now the chores begin to keep the baby happy, and after an episode where they nearly get the baby killed, the three confirmed bachelors become doting daddies. However as they were settling into their new family, the mom (Vidya Balan) comes along and takes the baby away. Now our three musketeers together have a task at hand, which is how to bring the family together. Now let’s talk about the good things first. The best thing Sajid Khan did was to sign Akshay Kumar for the movie, he almost single handedly carries the movie on his shoulders. In addition the supporting cast of Ritesh and Fardeen is also very good. I had no idea Fardeen Khan could act and he does well in that Parimal sequence. Ritesh Deshmukh is his usual self and provides some good laughs. The comedy sequences prevent the movie from being a stupid melodrama movie.
Then the songs of the movie are already a hit and even though they come at inopportune moments, they are still tolerable.
They have been shot well too. SRK’s cameo caused a few seetis to go off in the theatre. The bad parts are many and if you try to be really critical, you can probably write a book on those. I’ll just mention the ones that stood out for me starting with Sajid Khan. I remember his show where he used to make fun of scenes and older actors that did hamming. But in his first movie, he himself hams a lot. For example the scenes where the three bachelors struggle to take care of the baby, just seem to go on forever, I mean we get it, babies are tough to take care of, move on to the next joke. Then the other thing which looked really artificial was the turn around of the guys. I understand that they almost got the baby killed and this one incident is more than enough to change your life and will make you do whatever you can to wash off your guilt. But come on, these are men who have been assholes their entire life and suddenly they turn into big wimps and start crying like chicks at every sad moment. It’s not a big deal because its a Bollywood movie, but some real emotions would have been nice. The next weak thing in the movie was Vidya Balan. The actress has so far looked really gracious in all her roles and has been strength of those movies. Here it seems she was either ignored or she was having bad days at the shoot. I mean no where in the movie she looked convincing enough to show that she got cheated on by her boyfriend, her dad and has not seen her kid in a year. Remember those Jaya Pradha movies of late 80s and early 90s, that’s how a mom should react when her kid is taken away
But like I said initially, the movie is so funny in parts and has a huge likeability associated to it, that you’ll be able to ignore most of these things and enjoy it for what it is - a goofy bollywood film. The reason why I liked this movie much more than I did Partner is that even though both movies require you to leave your brains behind, this one at least has some funny jokes and sequences where the director doesn’t assume you to be a complete retard. I was struggling with how many stars I should give, I mean the movie is somewhere between 2.5 to 3 stars, but then I went with the higher rating so I would give it a 3.5 out of 5 and that’s good haan.
